What’s The Hype Around Class B Motorhomes?

Have you wondered what the best type of RV, Camper, or Motorhome is? The correct answer is whatever is best for you and your situation.

However, if you ask RVers who own a Class B RV, they’ll let you know there’s nothing like a Class B Motorhome to go camping in the Bristol, Connecticut area or to travel and experience this amazing country.

So why are they so great?

Versatility

For starters, they’re by far the most versatile. Let’s say, for example, you have a Winnebago Solis. You can head to private campgrounds like any other RV, but any other RV can’t fit into most State or National Parks. In fact, generally, it’s recommended to stay under 28 feet long for the majority of these parks, which are often the most serene and beautiful and, if we’re being candid, the most mind-blowing.

The big RVs can’t fit into most of these parks, which limits them to usually staying at private campgrounds outside of the parks and driving their tow vehicle in for day trips. While they’re still able to enjoy these parks, there’s no comparison to being parked with all the amenities of home and being able to wake up and walk outside into paradise to have your morning coffee. 

Boondocking

Here’s a term you may not be familiar with, “Boondocking” which is also commonly called “dry camping”. The term simply means RVing without RV Hookups and happens when you’re not at the campground or RV Resort.

Let’s say you had a Thor Gemini AWD. You could be camping in your friend’s driveway that you haven’t seen in a few years, pulling up for a holiday at the in-laws to stay for a long weekend and not having to stay in their house, enjoying a festival while being parked in a field, but probably the most rewarding and the most Instagram-able type of boondocking is being way out in the middle of nowhere. 

Out West, there are countless areas in BLM (Bureau of Land Management), but in the East and Midwest, you’ll find national forests that allow Boondocking.

The challenge for most RVers is to get to these “off the beaten path” locations, you often need to take gravel or dirt roads that are not maintained and tight curved, and when you start down these paths, you don’t know what’s ahead. That means, in a larger RV, you may not fit and won’t have a way to turn around.

Class B Motorhomes excel in these situations. They’re typically built on a van chassis, making them much easier to maneuver and navigate through tight spaces. This makes them a preferred choice for those who want to travel on adventurous road trips.

For anyone who’s experienced this, they’ll usually tell you that it’s the best part of the freedom of RVing.

Fuel Efficiency

Just like cars, Class B Motorhomes are improving significantly in their technology. Fuel efficiency is one of these constant improvements. They have smaller engines and are much lighter in weight than most RVs, resulting in better gas mileage. So, save on fuel and spend that money on experiences as you travel!

Big City Camping

Do you want to know an easy way to cause yourself to panic and sweat through your shirt? All you must do is drive a large RV or 5th Wheel downtown in a big city (trust us, we’ve done it).

That’s why big rigs avoid big cities. If you have a Class B Motorhome, not only can you drive through the city to catch a ballgame, concert, or some other event, but due to their compact size, you can park and stealth camp!

Your parking spot can simply turn into your campsite for the night, as you’re parked like any other vehicle would be!

Easy Storage and Parking

 Most people don’t have room on their property to park a large RV. Many HOAs and local covenants won’t allow them stored in your driveway either.

Yet, with a Class B Motorhome they take up very little space. It’s like parking an extra vehicle in the driveway.

This benefit transfers over to while you’re traveling also. If you’re driving and see a neat restaurant you want to swing into and try out, just pull in and park. Many places don’t have the capacity for large rigs, and they’re not easy to stop and pull over on a whim.

Lower Maintenance Costs

Class B Motorhomes have fewer mechanical components compared to larger motorhomes. That results in lower maintenance and repair costs. Additionally, their smaller size means less wear and tear on tires, brakes, and other parts.

Overall, Class B motorhomes offer a combination of maneuverability, versatility, and efficiency that appeals to many travelers, especially those who value flexibility and convenience in their RV adventures.
